Anderlecht set to sign Aston Villa’s Leander Dendoncker on a cheap fee

The 29-year-old signed from Wolves in 2022 in a deal believed to be worth £13m, but the move did not work out for either party.

The Belgian’s experience and versatility came in handy for Emery early last season, with Villa relying on the midfielder to cope with a tight schedule following Europa League qualification.

The 29-year-old’s time in Italy was a disaster as he only featured in three Serie A games, mostly on the bench.

Going into the season, Dendoncker knew his minutes at Aston Villa would be limited, so the midfielder was better off opting to join Anderlecht on loan.

Dendalk’s time at Anderlecht has so far been much better than his loan spell at Napoli.

The 29-year-old has featured in five games for Belgium, playing the full 90 minutes in each game. In addition to this, players on loan from Aston Villa also receive the captain’s armband, which goes a long way in convincing players to stay.

According to the Birmingham Post, Villa are ready to sell Dendoncker in 2025, with Anderlecht having the option to sign him permanently for around £7 million next summer, with the Belgian club likely to take This move.
