West Ham United have been linked with a number of players heading into the winter transfer window, with AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek the latest to be tipped to move to the London Stadium.
Milan claim that a route back to England has emerged with the 28-year-old falling out of favor in Paulo Fonseca’s plans, with a potential move to West Ham United this winter.
With Edson Alvarez’s future in doubt, the Hammers may need to sign a midfielder, with reports suggesting the Mexican could be included in a Loftus-Cheek swap deal.
Despite making bold moves in the summer, West Ham have failed to impress in the Premier League so far this season as they have won just twice in seven attempts. Their midfield has been particularly disappointing as they’re stuck in transition, so it’s no surprise to see them linked with the likes of Loftus-Cheek.
Swap deal may be the only way for Loftus-Cheek to land
If West Ham spend more money over the winter without offloading any key players, they could be immediately included in the Financial Fair Play package. Breaching such guidelines can result in severe sanctions, as Everton found out last season when they were docked two points.
Therefore, it would make sense for the Hammers to use Edson Alvarez as bait in a swap for Loftus-Cheek. Regardless of the figures, the 26-year-old’s move to Italy would allow West Ham to bank a significant amount of cash while also saving on wages, as Loftus-Cheek is unlikely to require a huge sum of money.
The 6ft 3in former Chelsea star will provide Julen Lopetegui with a physical midfielder who can also push the ball forward – something he also enjoyed having in his previous role. Such an image – so this could be a deal that suits all parties.
